Grounded strategy for smarter working

Way prior to Covid’s paradigm shift to ‘hybrid working’, many central and local government departments and executive agencies initiated ‘smart working’ programmes.

In practice, people often perceived these negatively – as ‘just saving space’. The challenge is to optimise resource use, and promoting individual and team performance. Working with the leaders of the UK government’s biggest department, we focused on what ‘smart-er’ working could offer to enhance DWP’s operations. Enlisting buy-in from business leaders in DWP, we generated a collective strategic mandate that they shared and endorsed.
