Kings Place is an innovative new centre, in a highly connected London location next to Europe's biggest transport hub at King's Cross. It houses a complementary mix of space for music and spoken word performance, visual art, conferencing, leisure and dining, as well as workplace accommodation for a range of occupiers.
The developer appointed ZZA as Strategic Advisers on Building Use at the outset, in the core professional team.
Following our input to the project vision and architectural competition brief, and the selection of Dixon Jones as architects, ZZA worked with the team on realising the brief, researching specific choices for the building's office areas and public spaces, and informing the design strategy for the overall configuration to support a high level of effective mixed use.
Kings Place opened in Autumn 2008 with a rich cultural programme, attracting its lively user base - day and night, throughout the week. The space was rapidly let, with over half of the office area taken at plan stage by Guardian News Group.
The highly acclaimed project won the BCO's 'Best of the Best Award' 2009, and the developer has been recognised as Client of the Year. Ziona Strelitz's highly illustrated account describes the important ways in which Kings Place has delivered value by challenging traditional mantra.
