Strategy

The Leadenhall Building

Known as The Cheesegrater, in the heart of London’s insurance cluster, the building is one of the City’s new generation of tall buildings with a strongly imaged form. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour, it has a dramatic 6-storey high galleria covering its full footprint, with office space on the upper floors. Open for public use, this unique semi-open space provides sheltered views to the iconic Lloyds Building by the same architects, directly opposite.

While it was under construction, ZZA were appointed to propose functional content to make the galleria a lively and rewarding venue for the building’s tenants and visitors. Our strategy drew on ZZA’s rich knowledge of international exemplars, and engagement with the building’s tenants, architects and asset managers.

Regent’s Place

Recognising it’s not just buildings, but the spaces between and around them that make effective places, British Land commissioned ZZA to research user experience of the mixed uses and public realm on their commercially successful London office campus, Regent’s Place. We analysed the site’s usage, researched instructive comparators, and conducted a suite of interviews with people users of the offices, housing, gym, nursery, bar, and open spaces, including operators of the facilities, neighbours, and visitors to the site. Our recommendations to enrich the campus as an enjoyable place to work, live and play led to a design brief and initial implementation.
